Homes and neighbourhoods in Glasgow, Scotland
How the city’s districts and house types shape a window or door survey — written for Glasgow, Scotland, not as a list of town-plus-service pages.

The housing mix
Glasgow, Scotland is still read first through its four-storey sandstone tenements: red and blonde stone, shared closes, and sash openings that look straight onto the street. West End streets add bay windows and denser tree cover. South-side terraces stretch longer elevations along quieter roads. Further out, later houses bring different frame depths and garden access. A survey starts from that mix, not from a catalogue page.
Centre and the merchant streets
Merchant City sits in the G1 grid of warehouses turned homes, with higher windows and street noise that matter on a survey. Nearby G2 streets carry civic and commercial blocks where flats sit above busy pavements. Replacements here need careful access planning as much as careful glass.
West End and the river’s north bank
Finnieston in G3 faces the Clyde and takes more wind than a sheltered courtyard. Partick in G11 mixes tenement closes with steeper streets toward the university. Hyndland and Hillhead in the wider G12 West End keep long sandstone frontages and bay windows that reward measured bar layouts. Maryhill along G20 follows the canal and railway cuts with solid tenement rows and later infill. Anniesland, Knightswood and Scotstoun push west into broader streets and more twentieth-century houses — still Glasgow, Scotland, still surveyed opening by opening.

South of the river
Govan in G51 keeps industrial-edge streets and river weather. Pollokshields and Shawlands in G41 show sandstone terraces and villas where front doors and bay windows sit on the same elevation. Battlefield, Cathcart and Mount Florida step south through G42 and G44 with terraces, corner flats and later semis. Govanhill’s dense closes ask for neighbour-aware fitting days. Each street has its own stone colour and opening rhythm; none of them need a separate service URL.
East End and the north
Dennistoun in G31 is classic blonde and red sandstone tenement living, with stairs shared between neighbours and sash windows onto busy or quiet streets depending on the block. Parkhead, Shettleston and Tollcross continue the eastward pattern with mixed ages of stock. Springburn and Possilpark to the north carry tenements and later housing where wind and elevation change from street to street. The survey notes the building, not a marketing label.
